TUTORS

Hello there!

 

If you are a high schooler (boy or girl) who is fond of STEM classes, we welcome you to apply to be a tutor. As long as you are dedicated and knowledgeable, you will fit right in with all the other tutors working for Girls in STEM. If you have no previous experience with tutoring, do not worry. We want to give everyone an opportunity to learn and grow.

Tutoring for Girls in STEM gives you the perfect opportunity to develop your leadership skills while also giving back to your community. It is an easy way to earn Service Learning Hours with 3 hours being awarded for each class; 1 for the class itself and 2 for the preparation. The members of the Board of Directors will work closely with you to ensure that you are providing the best possible education for our students. They will provide all of the necessary resources and support that you will need in order to successfully teach your student. 

As a tutor for Girls in STEM, you will be helping girls between the ages of 6 and 18 achieve success in STEM-related classes. Tutors will be given the option to either teach students 1 on 1 or teach groups of students ranging from 2-5 students. In addition, Girls in STEM will cater to you by matching you with students that fit within your schedule and teaching capabilities. 

In the end, how your experience tutoring for Girls in STEM goes is up to you. As long as you are dedicated and excited to teach every single class, you will do great and have a lot of fun!

APPLICATION PROCESS

1. Fill out the Registration Form by September 8

2. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis

3. Interviews will occur from September 8-9

4. Classes will be assigned by September 9

5. Classes will begin September 10

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Must have completed at least one year of high school or the international equivalent of 9th grade in the USA.

GPA

Must have at least a 3.5 unweighted GPA in all classes and at least a 3.6 GPA in STEM-related courses.

Documents

Recommended to submit an unofficial high school transcript or recent report card and a resume to ensure that the tutor is qualifed.

Girls in STEM is verified by the Howard County Public School System to give service learning hours to all of our tutors. Tutoring is an easy way to build up these service hours with 3 hours being awarded per class

Special Access to Events

As a tutor, you will have priority when registering for events such as listening to guest speakers, participating in master classes, or participating in college panels
